China modified old 629 submarine, maybe for test-firing DF-21D ballistic missile

China in recent years is based on the old 629 (NATO code-named "Golf") diesel-powered submarines and modernizing, used for new missile launch test.


Military analysts point out that the Chinese media recently broadcast images of military test showed that the old 629-type submarines vertical silos are being used to test the new cruise missile.


629 conventionally powered submarine began in 1964, equipped with the Chinese navy, in 1982 conducted the first successful underwater launch ballistic missile test. Reportedly, the submarine is still keeping the Chinese submarine force is the record number of missiles fired.


Experts say there are indications that 629 submarines in the future may be used for testing anti-ship ballistic missiles to attack aircraft carriers (DF-21D).


Type 629 is the world's first submarine capable of launching ballistic missiles, is the world's only diesel-powered ballistic missile submarines.
